How Have Funds Been Used?
The 2myles4autism event has been blessed with donations from many different businesses, individuals, memorial funds and more over the years. The funds are being used in the Howard-Suamico School District to directly support students with autism.
Here are some of the ways we allocated funds in the past:
Here are some of the ways we allocated funds in the past:
- Purchased 3 iPads for the early childhood teachers in the Howard-Suamico School District to be used with students with special needs in the early childhood program
- Purchased Apple TV device and cords for the early childhood program
- Provided sensory equipment at all Howard-Suamico schools
- Provided teacher training for how to meet the educational needs of students with autism
- Provided parent training on providing support for parents of children with autism
- Provided special education aide training on working with students with autism
- Sponsor a seat each year with "Project Search" for an HSSD student for an approximate cost of $9,000
- Gave $5,000 to the district Occupational Therapy team to purchase sensory equipment
- Sponsored Matt and Mitch LaBarge, local speakers who are on the autism spectrum, to provide a staff in-service
- Helped the district purchase stand-up desks because sitting at a typical desk can be difficult for some students on the spectrum
- Paid the fee for speakers to give a talk about autism at Bay View Middle School
- Purchased paper planners for students at Bay Port High School, as organization is just one area in which students on the spectrum can struggle
